Roy Bridge

Roybridge is one of of our regular locations for a winter meet, with a variety of walking routes in the
area and good accommodation. It’s also accessible by train from the south, with the station only a
short walk from the chalet. We have currently booked one chalet, but it may be possible to book a
second chalet if we know that there is sufficient demand well in advance of the meet; we will
obviously need a critical minimum number attending to justify a second chalet. The total accommodation cost for the Friday and Saturday nights will be approximately £61 each.

Braedownie Hut, Glen Clova, Dinner Meet

Next year’s dinner meet will take place in Glen Clova. We will be staying at the excellent Braedownie Hut which belongs to the Dundee based Carn Dearg Mountaineering Club. It is a fairly new, spacious and warm hut with plenty of room for 16 people in two separate men’s and women’s dorms. With more daylight hours we look forward to longer days to climb Munros such as Mayar and Driesh to the south, or the Lochnagar plateau to the north. There are also lovely shorter walks round Loch Brandy to Green Hill, over the Minister’s Path to Glen Prosen, and through the woods to beautiful Corrie Fee.
Annual dinner – the Clova Hotel was built in 1850 as a Drovers Inn and has served travellers and hillwalkers ever since. These days it caters to the lucrative wedding market, but they are glad to
welcome us for our club dinner on 10th May. We will have the use of a small private function suite,
which we can use for dinner, speeches and maybe even a song or two led by the chairman! Menu choices will be available next April, and the rough price will be 2 courses for £25 and £32 for 3 courses.
30 May – 3 June 2025
South Uist

Following our successful meet in Harris in 2023, in 2025 we are planning another trip to the Outer Isles, this time to South Uist, which has rugged mountains on its east side, and beautiful machair and beaches on the west. The popular Hebridean Way runs the length of the island, and you can visit the
birthplace of Flora MacDonald, not far from the excellent Kildonan Museum, a 13th century church
site at Howmore, and bronze age remains near Daliburgh. And just down the road is the causeway to Eriskay, site of the historical “Whisky Galore”, and from there you can catch the ferry to Barra. Kilbride hostel has room for 10 people, and provides bedding and ensuite bathrooms. Those who have already expressed interest will get the first chance to book. The cost is likely to be around £130 for the 4 nights. The camp site next door makes it an excellent place for campers, caravanners and campervanners to stay alongside those who want a hostel bed. A hard pitch with £25 per night.
13 – 15 June 2025
Glenfinnan Sleeping Car

Comfortable old train carriage and multiple hills on the doorstep. Prices depend on numbers attending: £33pp if 9 people attend, £43pp if 6 people attend.

Loch Ossian Youth Hostel

The Club has booked the iconic and very popular Loch Ossian Youth Hostel for this weekend. If you have never been to Loch Ossian before, it is an amazing place. Firstly, you can only get there by train, and you alight at Corrour Railway Station in the middle of the moor. There is then an easy 20 minute walk on the track to reach this cosy hostel, which is perched on the edge of Loch Ossian itself. The hostel has changed a little over the years – there are no longer any gas lamps! The stoves make it cosy during the winter. Beinn na Lap (935m) and Carn Dearg (941m) and a few more munros are within a short distance. It is also possible to cycle, walk or run around the loch (12 km).
