Current Programme

Our programme for the next few months is shown below. We hope that you will be interested in attending one or more of these meets. Please contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk

If you want to know more about the hills or area where we're holding a meet, check out the Scotland and Scottish Mountains section of our links.

We ask that you are realistic and consider your fitness, resilience, ability and equipment before selecting a meet that is suitable to you. For example, the degree of fitness, resilience, ability and equipment that are required for a winter day in the Cairngorms, are of a completely different order of magnitude to those required for a summer walk in the Trossachs. You should be responsible for your own safety and enjoyment and consider that of others so that everyone has an enjoyable time and no one is put at undue risk or inconvenience. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us for advice.

11 September
Beinn Chabhair
Day Walk – Grade 3
This Munro lies to the east of the A82, not that far north of Loch Lomond. A short, steep initial climb soon eases to far gentler undulating ground before the final section of the climb to the rocky summit. To enquire send an email to schc.info@yahoo.co.uk
1 - 3 October
AGM, Kincraig
Grades 2, 3 and 4
A welcome return to a weekend at the Cairngorm Christian Centre in Kincraig near Kingussie where we will be able to enjoy the spacious accommodation, together with the many surrounding hills of the Cairngorms. There will be walks available for all grades of walker and Saturday will be concluded with the annual AGM. We have provisionally booked 20 places, but we can currently book more should the need arise. Cost is £27 for the weekend. To enquire send an email to schc.info@yahoo.co.uk
22 - 25 October
Ratagan SYHA
Grades 2, 3
Please note the change of dates for this meet, as it is now taking place a week later than originally notified. It will still run over three nights – Friday, Saturday, Sunday – to allow ample time for walking in these last autumn days before the clocks go back and the nights draw in. The location is Ratagan Hostel in a stunning setting on the shores of Loch Duich just off the road to Skye. Views of the Five Sisters of Kintail across the water should provide inspiration for tackling the great variety of hills close at hand. The cost is £15 per night. To enquire send an email to schc.info@yahoo.co.uk
12 - 14 November
Weekend without Boots
St Drostans Centre, Glen Esk
The Club has held a retreat about every couple of years or so since 1995 and we are returning to St Drostans in the Angus Glens. This year we will be taking a different approach by looking at the relationship between our Christian faith and a contemporary issue – medical ethics, from both practitioner’s and patient’s perspective. Our time together will be a mixture of presentations and discussions; it will be led by a Christian GP who has experience both of teaching medical ethics to student doctors and preaching. The retreat will also include a time of worship. We have sole use of the Centre which sleeps 17 people in single and twin rooms. There is a common room and a more relaxing sitting room together with a large kitchen. The cost of the weekend will be £40. This will include all accommodation and all food. Please book as early as possible. To enquire send an email to schc.info@yahoo.co.uk
3 - 5 December
Glen Etive
Grades 2 & 3
We return to our usual haunt, Inbhirfhaolain hut, in Glen Etive. There will be further details later. To enquire send an email to schc.info@yahoo.co.uk
New Year
27 December 2010 – 3 January 2011 (Monday to Monday)
Fort William
The Club has booked an immaculate cottage in the Fort for the New Year. We hope for some cold, clear weather with plenty of snow on the hill. There are many hills in the locality, together with lower level walks and (weather permitting) skiing. The cost will be £18.50 per person per night: it may be possible to attend for part of the meet. To enquire send an email to schc.info@yahoo.co.uk
21 - 23 January 2010
Feshie Bridge Lodge
Grade 2 and DIY
A chalet for 8 has been booked at Feshiebridge Lodge for a winter weekend in the Cairngorms. The Lodge is also very well situated for either downhill or cross country skiing if conditions are favourable. Further information on the Lodge can be found at www.feshiebridgelodge.co.uk. Cost for the weekend is £30. To enquire, send an email to schc.info@yahoo.co.uk
