Current Programme

Our programme for the next few months is shown below. We hope that you will be interested in attending one or more of these meets. Please contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.

Visit us on Facebook.

If you want to know more about the hills or area where we're holding a meet, check out the Scotland and Scottish Mountains section of our links.

We ask that you are realistic and consider your fitness, resilience, ability and equipment before selecting a meet that is suitable to you. For example, the degree of fitness, resilience, ability and equipment that are required for a winter day in the Cairngorms, are of a completely different order of magnitude to those required for a summer walk in the Trossachs. You should be responsible for your own safety and enjoyment and consider that of others so that everyone has an enjoyable time and no one is put at undue risk or inconvenience. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us for advice.

New Year
28 December 2011 – 4 January 2012
Lochcarron
Grade DIY
The Club has booked a cottage (but not the one we have used previously) on the outskirts of Lochcarron for the New Year week. A wide range of walks, from the high tops of Torridon and Achnashellach to lower hills and coastal options, are all within an easy drive. We hope for some cold, crisp weather with plenty of snow on the hills but will enjoy ourselves in Christian fellowship whatever the weather. The cost will be £110 for the week although if places are available, it might be possible to stay for part of the week only. To enquire contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.
27 – 29 January
Aviemore – Annual Dinner
Grades 2, 3 & 4
This year we are heading to Aviemore for our Annual Dinner Meet. For those who haven’t been to such a meet, it provides an opportunity to share a meal together in a local restaurant rather than at our accommodation, and of course, enjoy a couple of days on the hill! We plan to eat at La Taverna Ristorante and stay at Aviemore Youth Hostel which is just along the road. The cost of meal will be around £18. It is very strongly recommended that you book as early as possible as this will be a busy time with skiers and other winter hillwalkers. As we are unable to make a block booking with the hostel, please book directly yourself. Aviemore is ideally situated for a huge variety of mountains in the Cairngorms so lots of scope for a good two days. Full winter kit ie crampons and ice axes will be required. Skiing may be an option for the weekend also. To enquire contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.
17 - 19 February
Muir Hut, Braemar
Grade 2 & 3
The Cairngorm mountains are a landscape of wild spaces, snow capped peaks and primeval forests. There is much to explore and many hills to climb (and possibly ski!) so book early to avoid disappointment. We will be staying at the Muir Hut, providing good accommodation in the heart of Deeside and where the club has been to many times before. The cost of the weekend is £25 and sleeping bags will be required. To enquire contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.
9 – 11 March
Glencoe
Grade 2
A late winter meeting is planned staying at the youth hostel in majestic Glen Coe. There are many Munros, Corbetts and Grahams to ascend above Glen Coe, with Glen Etive, Appin, Ardgour and Glen Nevis being accessible by car. Snow cannot be guaranteed. To enquire contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.
6 – 9 April
Ullapool
Grades 2 & 3
This meet takes place in the Youth Hostel over the Easter weekend, so it will be essential to book your bed early.  To enquire contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.
4 – 7 May
Glen Etive – Inbhirfheolain Hut
Grades 2 & 3
The club has booked 3 nights at this hut, which is located well down the glen, accessible by road, with lots of hills on the doorstep. Let’s hope that early summer will bring better weather than for the last two club meets at this venue (very wet in autumn 2009 and cancelled due to snowy roads in 2010!) There are 13 places. Sleeping accommodation is in one upstairs room on two facing single platforms. Mattresses provided, but bring your own sleeping bag. Cost for the whole weekend is £20. To enquire contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.
1 – 4 June
Island of Coll
Grade DIY (Camping)
This will be the first time the club has been to Coll. Although the highest point is just 104m, it offers some rugged walking internally as well as some spectacular beach and coastal walks. As group accommodation is limited, we will be using a campsite and it will be worth taking bicycles to get around. The exact departure and return times will be confirmed when the summer ferry timetables are published. Further details will be given in the next newsletter. Early signs of interest would be helpful. To enquire contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.
16 – 23 June
Kintail
Grades 2 & 3
A multiplicity of Munros, a collection of Corbetts and a gathering of Grahams await those who join the Club on it’s summer holiday. The Club has booked a cottage in its own grounds near Shiel Bridge with a panoramic view of the Five Sisters. The area is covered by 1:50k sheet 33 which has the reputation as the OS map covering the most Munros. There is a great range of hills to climb within an easy drive from the cottage. The cost will be £75 for the week’s accommodation. To enquire contact schc.info@yahoo.co.uk.
